TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology earned a pair of Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference Player of the Week honorees for last week's
efforts.
Sophomore Brittany Bernthold (Fisherville,
Ky./Eastern) has been named the league Softball Player of
the Week, while sophomore Derek Eitel (Marshall, Ill.) claimed the
Baseball Pitcher of the Week honor.
Bernthold batted .545 with 12 hits, six runs
scored and four RBIs to help lead the Engineer softball team to
a 5-1 mark and a 4-0 conference record last week.
Overall, Bernthold was 12-22 at the plate with
one triple, a .545 on-base average and a team-high .636 slugging
average.
Her efforts helped Rose-Hulman (24-10) sweep HCAC
foes Mount St. Joseph and Hanover to earn hosting rights for
this weekend's 2008 double elimination league tournament on
Friday and Saturday. The winner receives a bid to the NCAA
Division III Tournament.

Eitel tossed 8 1/3 shutout innings over two
appearances to lead the baseball team's unblemished record last week.
Eitel threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings in a road victory at Franklin
and came on in relief for 1 2/3 scoreless innings in a victory over Hanover.
For the week, Eitel allowed seven hits, no runs and two walks
with six strikeouts and a .226 opposition average.
Rose-Hulman stands 26-9 on the year and 13-4 in HCAC play.
The Engineers, who hold a one-game lead over Mount St. Joseph in the league
standings, host Anderson University in a league matchup on Tuesday at 6.
