TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology earned three Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference
Player of the Week awards, including a pair of track and field
honors, in results released today by the league office.
Honorees included senior track
and field athletes B.J. Esarey (Defiance, Ohio) and Mandy Hecker
(Georgetown/North Harrison), along with men's golfer Ryan Mitchell
(Fishers).
Esarey recorded
the fourth-best javelin throw in Rose-Hulman school history with to win the
individual title by more than 30-feet at the Engineer Twilight Invitational on
Friday.
His throw of 179’
1” ranks fourth all-time in a record book that features two-time national
champion Chris Trapp as the school record holder.

Mandy Hecker -- HCAC Women's Track and Field Athlete of
the Week |
Hecker smashed her own school record in the 800-meter run by five seconds at the
Rose-Hulman Twilight Invitational on Friday. She ran a time of 2:18.99 to top
her own previous record mark of 2:23.99 set last season.
Hecker currently holds six Rose-Hulman track and field school
records. She holds record marks in the indoor 800-meter run, mile and
4-x-400-meter relay, along with the outdoor 800-meters, 1,500-meters and
4-x-400-meter relay.
Mitchell
led Rose-Hulman’s
team effort at the Centre Invitational with a round of 76 in the 18-hole event.
Mitchell, who
finished eighth overall at Centre, teamed with fellow freshman Dan Stanage for a
four-man victory in a Ryder Cup style match against Wabash on Thursday.
Rose-Hulman competes in both the men's golf and track
championships in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this weekend.
The track and field championships will be held at Bluffton University, while the
four-day golf championships begins with two rounds hosted by Transylvania
University.
