Rose-Hulman News Coy McNew, Ryan Schipper Named HCAC Athletes of the Week

Coy McNew -- HCAC Golfer of the Week

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sophomore golfer Coy McNew (Richmond) and senior track and field standout Ryan Schipper (Fort Wayne/Dwenger) were named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week today.

McNew shot a round of 77 at the Millikin College Invitational on Friday to lead the Engineers to a 12th-place team finish in a tournament cut to one day due to rain.

McNew finished 32nd in the field of 116 players with his effort.  He joins teammate Daniel Williams as a conference Player of the Week so far this season.

Schipper earned his second career Indiana Little State championship with a pole vault clearance of 15' 11 3/4" in cool and windy conditions on Friday.  The effort was the second best clearance for Schipper in the 2007 Outdoor Season.

Schipper became the first two-time Little State champion at Rose-Hulman since his brother Andrew accomplished the feat from 2000-03.

He has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships after placing ninth in the nation in the pole vault at Rose-Hulman's Indoor Nationals in March.

The Rose-Hulman golf team hosts Wabash College on Thursday at Hulman Links, while the track and field team hosts the Engineer Twilight Meet on Friday at 5 p.m.
