Rose-Hulman News Three Rose-Hulman Student Athletes Named
HCAC Players of the Week

Joe Rottman -- HCAC Player of the Week

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Members of three Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology spring sports teams earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday.

Senior men's golfer Daniel Williams (Cloverdale), senior men's tennis player Joe Rottman (Evansville/ Castle) and freshman track and field sprinter Sarita Stephney (Houston, Texas/Hastings) were honored by the league office.

Williams finished 11th out of 71 golfers at the Millikin University Spring Opener on Friday and Saturday.  He opened the tournament with a round of 80 in windy conditions, then shot a 78 to cap the tournament on Saturday.

His efforts helped Rose-Hulman earn a fifth-place finish in the tournament.

Rottman finished 2-1 at the No. 1 singles position last weekend to earn his second HCAC Player of the Week honor in the season's first three weeks.

Rottman has a 6-2 mark at the No. 1 singles slot and stands 3-3 in No. 1 doubles play this spring for the Engineers.  Rose-Hulman stands 3-5 overall on the season and 2-2 in HCAC play entering this week's Kerry Seward Invitational at Wabash.

Sarita Stephney -- HCAC Runner of the Week

Stephney set a school record for the Rose-Hulman track and field team in the Engineer Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.  She captured top honors in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.99 seconds to set her first school record of the outdoor season.

Stephney followed the effort with a victory in the 200-meter dash in 26.98 seconds, the third-best mark in school history.  Her victories were two of 10 earned by Rose-Hulman student-athletes at the Early Bird Invitational that featured DePauw, Hanover and Millikin.

The three honorees tie the most in one week for the Rose-Hulman athletic department, matching a mark set during the first week of the fall sports season.
