TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Members of three Rose-Hulman
Institute of Technology spring sports teams earned Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors on
Monday.
Senior men's golfer Daniel Williams
(Cloverdale), senior men's tennis player Joe Rottman
(Evansville/ Castle) and freshman track and field sprinter
Sarita Stephney (Houston, Texas/Hastings) were honored by
the league office.
Williams finished 11th out of 71 golfers at the
Millikin University Spring Opener on Friday and Saturday.
He opened the tournament with a round of 80 in windy conditions,
then shot a 78 to cap the tournament on Saturday.
His efforts helped Rose-Hulman earn a fifth-place
finish in the tournament.
Rottman finished 2-1 at the No. 1 singles
position last weekend to earn his second HCAC Player of the Week
honor in the season's first three weeks.
Rottman has a 6-2 mark at the No. 1 singles slot
and stands 3-3 in No. 1 doubles play this spring for the
Engineers. Rose-Hulman stands 3-5 overall on the season
and 2-2 in HCAC play entering this week's Kerry Seward
Invitational at Wabash.

Stephney set a school record for the Rose-Hulman
track and field team in the Engineer Early Bird Invitational on
Saturday. She captured top honors in the 100-meter dash
with a time of 12.99 seconds to set her first school record of
the outdoor season.
Stephney followed the effort with a victory in
the 200-meter dash in 26.98 seconds, the third-best mark in
school history. Her victories were two of 10 earned by
Rose-Hulman student-athletes at the Early Bird Invitational that
featured DePauw, Hanover and Millikin.
The three honorees tie the most in one week for
the Rose-Hulman athletic department, matching a mark set during
the first week of the fall sports season.
