INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- The
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's tennis team topped No. 2
seed Franklin College in Sunday's HCAC semi-final action 5-2, before
falling to top seeded Transylvania University 5-0 in the
championship match.
The Engineers pick up their
first win at No. 1 doubles from the pair of sophomores Michael
Schoumacher (Memphis/Tenn.) and Scott Grubbs (Wildwood,
Mo.) who topped Brad Lowe and Nathan Kelly of Franklin 9-7.
In singles action,
Rose-Hulman swept all four singles matches that were played to
completion, getting wins at No. 2 singles from Grubbs, No. 3 singles
from freshman David Becerra (Brownsburg), No 4. singles from
freshman Seth Hendrickson (Crawfordsville), and at No. 5
singles from freshman Ryan Taylor (Franklin).
With the win, the Engineers
advanced to play the defending HCAC Champion Pioneers, who defeated
Rose-Hulman 5-0, to win the 2008 Men's Tennis title without losing a
set.
Rose-Hulman completed the
season with a 10-7 record after Sunday's matches.
