INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- The
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's tennis team defeated
Anderson University 5-1 in Saturday's quarterfinal action at the
HCAC Championships hosted by Rose-Hulman at the West Indy Racquet
Club.
After the three matches of
doubles, Rose-Hulman led the Ravens 2-1 after receiving wins from
the pair of freshmen Alex Gumz (Palatine, Ill.) and David
Becerra (Brownsburg) who defeated Anderson's Kai and Zach
McCurdy 8-4 and the team of freshmen Brent Frizzell (Avon)
and Seth Hendrickson (Crawfordsville) who topped Kyle
Mountsier and Nathan Turner by a final of 8-4.
The Engineers clinched the
victory after wins at No. 1 singles by sophomore Michael
Schoumacher (Memphis, Tenn.), No. 4 singles by Hendrickson, and
No. 5 singles by freshman Ryan Taylor (Franklin).
Rose-Hulman will face No. 2
seed Franklin tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m.
