Rose-Hulman News Rose-Hulman Improves to 8-7 with Come From Behind Victory

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rallied from a 4-3 deficit with a pair of three-set singles victories to defeat Indiana Tech 5-4 in men's tennis action on Sunday.

Senior Joe Rottman (Evansville/Castle) and freshman Michael Schoumacher (Memphis, Tenn.) survived a marathon day of play to help the Engineers earn the victory.  The duo won a 75-minute doubles match by a 9-8 score, then provided the winning margin with their three-set wins.

Rottman turned a 4-3 deficit into a 4-4 tie in a victory over Jose Villavisencio.  He captured the first set by a 6-4 margin, lost the second 2-6, then won the third set 6-3 to tie the match.

With both teams watching the fifth singles match, Schoumacher turned a 3-2 third-set deficit into a 6-3 victory by earning the last four games.

Other winners for the Engineers included the doubles team of freshman Matt Rusin (Dublin, Ohio) and freshman Scott Grubbs (Wildwood, Mo.) and Grubbs at the No. 4 singles slot.
