TERRE HAUTE, IND. - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will conduct a 100th season of men's basketball celebration as part of its upcoming home game with Defiance College on Feb. 9.

The festivities include the 3 p.m. Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup, following a 1 p.m. women's contest between the same two colleges.

A reception and dinner for men's basketball alumni and invited guests will occur on campus following the game.

Rose-Hulman's 100 seasons of history include eight appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament and nine conference championships.  The historical efforts include three seasons of 20 wins or more and winning marks during 15 of the last 20 years.

The festivities will include the two winningest coaches in Fightin' Engineer men's basketball history in John Mutchner and Jim Shaw.  Jim Carr, who ranks third in school history with 114 victories, passed away in December and will be remembered throughout the event.  Numerous alumni basketball players are also expected to attend the events of the day.

This article is the first in a four-part series that will follow each Thursday during the remainder of January.  Specific articles will mention highlights of the Jim Carr and John Mutchner eras, along with a summary of accomplishments during the current Jim Shaw era of Rose-Hulman basketball.
