TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The
Engineer men's basketball team fell to HCAC leader Defiance
College on Saturday by a final score of 57-40 on an
afternoon that brought approximately 1300 fans to Hulbert
Arena to celebrate the 100th season of basketball at
Rose-Hulman.The Engineers were led
by senior Ron George (Louisville, Ky./Dupont Manual)
who scored 11 points and tallied three assists in the loss.
Fellow senior Phil Sundling (Huntington/North)
tallied eight points and three assists, connecting on 2 of
his 3 three-point attempts.
Freshman Daniel Lowers (Gosport/Edgewood)
paced the Rose-Hulman defensive effort grabbing a team-high
five rebounds and collecting two steals.
The solid defensive effort by Defiance
held the Engineers to a 43% shooting percentage for the
contest and limited Rose-Hulman to 15 points in the second
half.
Defiance's Anthony Pettaway led all
scorers with 21 points, shooting 10-15 from the field and
grabbing 10 rebounds. The effort improved the Yellow
Jackets to 15-6 on the season and 10-2 in conference play.
The Engineers dropped to 10-12 on the year
with the loss and 6-7 in HCAC contests. Rose-Hulman
will host Anderson University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday
night at Hulbert Arena.
