TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rallied from a 14-point second-half deficit to close within one, but could not overcome Transylvania University in a 62-58 loss on Saturday at Hulbert Arena.

Joey Searle led the Transylvania offense with 22 points and nine rebounds, including 5-6 from three-point range.  Nick Feagan added 12 points for the winners.

Senior Brian Bibb (Hoopeston, Ill.) led a balanced Rose-Hulman offense with 12 points and nine rebounds.  Junior Jared Moore (Indianapolis/Perry Meridian) added 10 points, while senior Jason Bednarko (Athens, Ill.) and sophomore Lorenzo Rice (Grandview, Mo.) had nine points each.

Rose-Hulman relied on a 7-0 run to close within 22-19 late in the first half, on a three-pointer by Bednarko and a layup by Rice.  Transylvania closed the first half on a 9-0 run to gain a 31-19 lead at the break.

The Transylvania lead increased to 14 points at 33-19 before Rose-Hulman began its comeback.  Layups by senior David Yaraschefski (Mooresville), Moore and junior Ross Uthoff (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran) brought the Engineers within 33-25 with 17:28 remaining, and Rose-Hulman later closed within three points at 42-39 on a layup by Bibb with 10:22 left.

Lorenzo Rice skies in the lane for two of his nine points.
The Pioneers responded with nine straight points over the next two minutes to earn a 51-39 lead at the 8:17 on a threee-pointer by Searle and a layup by Matthew Parton.  Rose-Hulman continued to battle back, moving within 53-45 with 5:45 left on two free throws by Rice.

The Engineers defense held Transylvania without a point over the next four minutes and moved within 53-52 on a three-pointer by Bednarko, a layup by Uthoff and two free throws by Bibb.  Searle hit a key three-pointer on the next possession to give the Pioneers a 56-52 edge with 1:28 left.

Bibb made one of two free throws on the next possession to move the margin within 56-53, but Aaron Cash hit a pair of clutch tosses to make the score 58-55.  A layup by junior Phil Sundling (Huntington/North) was offset by two more free throws from Cash.  A three-pointer by Moore with 1.2 seconds left brought Rose-Hulman within the final margin.

Prior to the contest, Rose-Hulman held its annual Alumni Day game.  The grey team (odd years) topped the black team (even years) 73-70.  Philip Griffith had 18 points for the Grey, with Joe Puthoff adding 16.  Patrick Grace scored a game-high 20 points in the contest.
