  Rose-Hulman News Franklin Overcomes Ron George Career High to Top Engineers

Ron George had a career-high 18 points
to lead the Rose-Hulman offense.

FRANKLIN, IND. -- Franklin College shot 50% from the field to overcome a career-high 18-point performance from Rose-Hulman junior Ron George (Louisville, Ky.) in a 68-51 Grizzlies victory on Wednesday night.

 

Dustin Marshall led the winning squad with 20 points, while Jace Redman added 16 for the 12-8 Grizzlies.  John Yochum added nine points for an attack that buried 10 three-pointers in the victory.

 

For Rose-Hulman, George finished 7-9 from the field and 4-4 from the line with five rebounds to pace the effort.  Senior Jason Bednarko (Athens, Ill.) added eight points, while junior Ross Uthoff (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran) and freshman Grant Walthall (Carmel/Cathedral) each had six points for the Engineers.

 

Rose-Hulman shot 53% from the field in each half to maintain striking distance, but Franklin took advantage of 20 turnovers and only committed seven of its own.

 

The game featured five ties and nine lead changes in a tightly contested first half that saw Franklin earn a 28-25 advantage. 

 

A layup by Uthoff put the Engineers ahead 23-22 with 1:34 left in the first half, before three-pointers by Redman and Marshall gave Franklin a three-point halftime lead.  In the second half, Franklin turned up the offense with 50% shooting and five three-pointers to secure the win.

 

Franklin improved to 7-4 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play and 12-8 overall, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 8-13 and 4-8 in league games.  The Engineers host Transylvania University on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Hulbert Arena.
