TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored 38 points in
the middle two quarters to celebrate Senior Day in style with a
38-14 victory over Anderson University on Saturday.
Senior Cameron Hummel (Dunkirk/Jay County)
led the Engineer offense with 132 yards passing and pair of
touchdowns. The defense relied on interception returns for
touchdowns by juniors Steve Hawkins (Casey,
Ill./Casey-Westfield) and Austin Hastings (Santa Ana,
Calif.) to help secure the fifth win of the year.
Sophomore Tim Schrock (Avon) added a
team-high 87 rushing yards and a 52-yard touchdown scamper,
while sophomore Nate Richter (Zionsville) led the
receivers with three catches for 51 yards.
Rose-Hulman's defense shutout Anderson until
late in the third quarter with a solid team effort.
Hastings led the team with nine tackles, with freshman Kyle
Stevens (Santa Cruz, Calif./Harbor) adding eight stops.

The Engineers celebrated Senior Day for 10
members of the football program. Safety Mike Alto (West
Chester, Ohio/Lakota East), receiver Ray Boyden
(Plainfield/Avon), guard Brandon Couch (Greenfield/New
Palestine), offensive tackle Tim Hachfeld (Detroit Lakes,
Minn.), tight end Clint Hammes (Sheridan/Westfield),
defensive tackle Adam Helmerich (Huntingburg/ Southridge),
Hummel, cornerback Drew Lopshire (South Whitley/
Whitko), receiver Ryan Robinson (Danville) and
linebacker Tim Wilson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge)
were recognized for their efforts in a pregame ceremony.
Rose-Hulman broke open a scoreless tie with 21
unanswered points in the second quarter. Hummel opened the
scoring with a 26-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Justin
Meade (Middletown, Ohio/Madison) to put the Engineers ahead
7-0.

Rose-Hulman gained a 14-0 advantage on another
Hummel strike, this time of 33 yards to Richter. Schrock
scampered 51 yards for his touchdown to cap the first half
scoring and give the Engineers a 21-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Rose-Hulman continued to add
points to the scoreboard. The Engineers gained a 24-0 lead
on a 27-yard field goal on a windy day by junior Jeremy Sharp
(Warsaw).
The defense added the final two scores of the
victory. Hawkins returned an interception with 7:06 left
in the third quarter to make the score 31-0, and Hastings
sprinted 70 yards for a score to push the lead to 38-0 at the
1:07 mark of the third quarter.
Anderson answered with a pair of touchdown
passes to bring the Ravens within the final 38-14 margin.
Brock Vanderbush connected on scores of 54 and 60 yards to Hyman
Smith.
Rose-Hulman improved to 5-4 on the season and
2-4 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while
Anderson dropped to 1-7 on the season and 0-5 in league games.
The Engineers travel to Manchester next Saturday at 1:30 p.m.,
in search of a 6-4 record and their first winning season since
1995.
