The Engineers celebrate with Adam Helmerich (fist raised, middle) after the defensive lineman scored his first career TD.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored five touchdowns in the first half and three in the second to earn a 56-0 victory over Concordia University Chicago at Cook Stadium on Saturday.

Senior Cameron Hummel (Dunkirk/Jay County) led a balanced offensive attack with 14 completions in 21 attempts for 205 yards and one touchdown through the air.  Senior Ryan Robinson (Danville) led the receiving corps with five receptions for 100 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown.

On the ground, sophomore Bryan Wong (Warsaw/Tippecanoe Valley) rushed for a career-high 73 yards on seven carries with a pair of touchdowns to pace the 198-yard attack.  Sophomore Tim Schrock (Avon) added 49 rushing yards and one score.

Rose-Hulman's defense recorded its first shutout since 2002 by allowing just 154 yards of total offense and forcing five turnovers.

The defense added a pair of its own touchdowns, with seniors Adam Helmerich (Huntingburg/ Southridge) and Mike Alto (West Chester, Ohio/ Lakota East) reaching the endzone for the first time in their college careers.

Ryan Robinson opened the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown catch on this play.

Helmerich returned a 39-yard interception for a touchdown in the second quarter, and Alto capped the scoring with a 43-yard interception return at the 12:11 mark of the fourth quarter.

Other Engineers with interceptions included senior Drew Lopshire (South Whitley), freshman Drew Christy (Fillmore/South Putnam) and freshman Bill Crosby (Merrillville).

The 56 points scored by Rose-Hulman marked the most in a game since the Engineers defeated Manchester 61-44 on Homecoming in 1995.  The game also resulted in the largest margin of victory for Rose-Hulman in a game since the Engineers topped Eureka 78-6 in 1958.

The Engineers started the scoring on the game's opening drive, marching 85 yards in six plays to make the score 7-0.  Hummel connected with Robinson on an 18-yard strike to cap the drive.

On the next Rose-Hulman possession, another six-play drive netted in a touchdown to make the score 14-0.  A 21-yard pass from Hummel to senior Clint Hammes (Sheridan/Westfield) moved the ball to the one yard line, before Schrock scored from one yard out.

The score moved to 21-0 on the fourth Engineer possession.  The five-play, 51-yard march featured a 32-yard pass from Hummel to Brandon Nance (Shelbyville), before Wong scored from two yards out.

Bryan Wong rushed for a pair of touchdowns and a game-high 73 yards.

Just 54 seconds later, Rose-Hulman scored again to move the advantage to 28-0.  Concordia quarterback Jason Weeks had a pass tipped and intercepted by Helmerich, who sprinted 39 yards for the first touchdown of his Engineer career.

The Engineers finished the first half scoring with a seven-play drive ending in the final minute of the stanza.  Schrock had consecutive runs of 13 and 14 runs to open the drive, and Nance scored from one-yard out to make the advantage 35-0 at the break.

In the second half, Rose-Hulman marched 94 yards in nine plays to earn a 42-0 lead.  Hummel had a 10-yard rush and a 21-yard pass to Robinson in the drive, before Wong rushed for 29 yards and 11 yards on consecutive plays to score his second touchdown.

The lead stretched to 49-0 on a 48-yard, 12-play drive that opened the fourth quarter.  Freshman Calvin Bueltel (Huntingburg/Southridge) had runs of 12, nine and nine yards on the drive, before freshman Zach Brune (Decatur/Bellmont) scored his first college touchdown on a seven-yard scamper.

Alto capped the scoring with a 43-yard interception return two plays into the next Concordia Chicago drive.

Rose-Hulman improved to 2-1 on the season, while Concordia Chicago fell to 1-2.  The Engineers travel to North Park University (1-1) for a 1:30 p.m. Central Time (2:30 Indiana time) game next Saturday.
