Rose-Hulman Battles but Falls 20-9 to Defending HCAC Champion Mt.
St. Joseph

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology battled two
time defending Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference champion
Mount St. Joseph for a full 60 minutes before falling 20-9 to the
nationally ranked Lions on Saturday night at Cook Stadium.
Mike Lovell led the Mount St. Joseph
with 162 yards and two touchdowns rushing, but the Engineer defense
limited quarterback Rashon Lewis to a combined 84 yards rushing and
passing in the contest.
Senior Mike Alto (West Chester,
Ohio/Lakota East) paced Rose-Hulman's defensive effort with 11
tackles, including nine solo efforts and 3.5 tackles-for-loss.
Seniors Drew Lopshire (South Whitley) and Tim Wilson
(Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) added 10 stops each.

touchdown. |
Senior Cameron Hummel (Dunkirk/Jay
County) finished 14-27 for 150 yards with one touchdown through
the air to lead the Engineer offense. Sophomore Tim Schrock
(Avon) led the ground attack with 29 yards on seven attempts.
The receiving corps came up with
several plays to keep drives alive. Sophomores Nate Richter
(Zionsville) and Justin Meade (Middletown, Ohio) had
three receptions each to lead the effort. Junior Jared
Moore (Indianapolis/Perry Meridian) added two catches, including
a 25-yard touchdown on a fourth down play in the third quarter.
Mount St. Joseph relied on a solid
ground attack to earn a 20-0 halftime lead. Lovell scored five
minutes into the game on a 62-yard scoring scamper, and Lewis rushed
14 yards for a second touchdown to make the lead 14-0. A third
touchdown with 1:00 left in the opening half on a two-yard Lovell
run made the score 20-0 at the break.

Rose-Hulman dictated play for much of
the second half, outscoring the defending league champions 9-0 and
outgaining the Lions by nearly 100 yards in the final 30 minutes.
The Engineers opened the second half
scoring on a fourth down scoring pass from Hummel to Moore of 25
yards with 2:45 left in the third quarter.
Rose-Hulman later added a safety
when Mount St. Joseph took an intentional play out of the endzone on
a punt that gave the Engineers possession.
Mount St. Joseph improved to 2-0 on
the season and 1-0 in HCAC play, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 1-1
and 0-1 in league games. The Engineers host Concordia
University Chicago next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Cook Stadium.
