TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Four returnees to the Rose-Hulman
Institute of Technology baseball program enjoyed standout
campaigns in various summer leagues, highlighted by two Rose-Hulman
pitchers who helped a team earn a World Series crown.
Derek Eitel (Marshall, Ill.) and Gannon
Sadzeck (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) helped pitch the
Crystal Lake Cardinals squad to the National Amateur Baseball
Federation College Division World Series title.
Eitel recorded a 5-0 record in six starts with a
microscopic 0.16 earned run average. The senior to be
allowed just one earned run in 43.1 innings of work with 14
walks and 49 strikeouts as part of a squad that finished 51-15
on the season.
Following the Crystal Lake season, Eitel was a
late addition to the Richmond RiverRats roster in the Prospect
League. He compiled a 2-0 record with a 2.00 earned run
average in three starts, including 16 strikeouts in 18 innings
of work.
Sadzeck provided solid depth to the Crystal Lake
rotation with a 4-3 record and a 3.25 earned run average in nine
starts. He scattered 64 hits in 51.2 innings of work with
23 strikeouts.
Keenan Long (Park Ridge, Ill./Northwestern
University) enjoyed a successful summer as both a catcher
and first baseman in two leagues. Long batted .380 for the
Addison Braves with 19 hits, two doubles, two stolen bases and a
.500 on-base
average in the wood bat league. He later appeared in 19
games as a Richmond RiverRat with a .371 average, seven doubles,
two home runs and 12 runs scored.
Tim Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) rounded
out Rose-Hulman's Summer League list by appearing in 17 games
for the Hamilton Joes of the Great Lakes League.
Eitel, Long, Sadzeck and Tepe are four of the 23
returning letter winners for the Fightin' Engineer program in
2010. Rose-Hulman has appeared in the NCAA Division III
Baseball Tournament during each of the past two seasons and
finished 32-14 in 2009.
