TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Adrian
College advanced to the championship game of the NCAA Division III
Mideast Baseball Regional with a 4-1 victory over Heidelberg College
on Friday afternoon at Rose-Hulman.
Adrian advances to the first
regional championship round in baseball program history with its
33rd victory of the campaign. Heidelberg returns to action in
the elimination round tonight at 7 p.m. against an opponent to be
determined.
Ryan Domschott emerged as the
hero for the victors with seven strong innings of work out of the
bullpen. Domschott entered with two runners on base in the
second inning and tossed the next seven frames, allowing just one
run and three hits. The left-hander struck out three and
improved to 33-10 on the season.
Offensively, Alex Cowart led
the Bulldogs with two singles and one run scored. Brian Bilius
slapped a single and drove home two runs, and Steve Vanderheyden
contributed a single, one run and one RBI.
Heidelberg was held to just
four hits in the contest, highlighted by a solo home run by Willie
Brechun. Jake Gossman was the hard luck loser on the mound,
after allowing three runs in the first inning and no runs for his
final seven frames. Gossman struck out nine and walked six in
falling to 4-3 on the campaign.
Adrian improved to 33-10
overall, while Heidelberg dropped to 39-9. The Student Princes
return to action tonight at 7 p.m. against the winner of the next
game between Rose-Hulman and Wooster.
