TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Adrian
College scored two runs in the eighth inning to rally for a 4-3
victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in game six of the
NCAA Division III Mideast Baseball Regional on Thursday night.
The Bulldogs scored two
unearned runs due to three Engineer errors in the eighth inning,
with a sacrifice fly by Jake Cappelletty providing the tiebreaking
run to lift Adrian to the victory.
Bobby Rickstad battled through
the complete game on the mound to earn the pitching win.
Rickstad improved to 6-2 on the season with a three-hitter that
featured 10 strikeouts and two walks.
Offensively, Rickstad and
Vanderheyden led the Adrian attack with three hits each.
Rickstad scored twice and Vanderheyed drove home two runs for the
Bulldogs.
Rose-Hulman tied the score at
2-2 with a two-run home run by Keenan Long in the first inning.
The Engineers took a 3-2 lead on a double by Gabe Focke and a
fielding error after a bunt single by Troy Eveslage that scored
Focke.
On the mound, Michael Matsui
scattered 10 hits and allowed two earned runs in eight innings of
work. Matsui walked none and struck out six in falling to 10-2
on the season.
Adrian improved to 32-10 on
the season and returns to action against Heidelberg College in a
winner's bracket game on Friday at noon. Rose-Hulman stands
32-14 overall and squares off with the College of Wooster at 3:30 on
Friday.
