Wooster Tops Transylvania to Remain Alive in NCAA Regional

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – The College of Wooster remained alive in the NCAA Division III Mideast Baseball Regional with a 6-3 victory over Transylvania University on Thursday.

Stu Beath led the Fighting Scots with four hits, including a double, one run scored and one RBI.  Jake Sankal added two singles and scored twice, with Sean Karpen slapping two singles with two RBIs for Wooster.

Anthony Trapuzzano improved to 8-3 on the season with a strong performance on the mound for Wooster.  Trapuzzano scattered four hits and allowed no earned runs in six innings of work with seven strikeouts.  Matt Barnes tossed three scoreless innings to earn his first save of the year.

Transylvania completed a 31-14 season that featured a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship and the first NCAA Division III Tournament trip in school history.  Tim Bauman and Bryan Baker paced the Pioneers offense with one single and one run scored each.

Ben Luking tossed seven innings of the mound and recorded five strikeouts to lead the Transylvania pitching effort.

Wooster improved to 35-10 on the campaign and returns to action with a matchup to be determined on Friday.
