TERRE HAUTE, IND. –
Heidelberg College scored seven times in the third inning to earn a
10-3 victory over Transylvania University in game one of the 2008
NCAA Division III Mideast Baseball Regional at Rose-Hulman on
Wednesday.
The Student Princes slapped
seven hits in the frame to take control of the contest. Andrew
Buelow and Biagio Boytim led the rally with two-run singles.
Willie Brechun led the
Heidelberg offense with three doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Jeremy Wentworth added two singles and two RBIs, with Boytim
contributing two singles, two runs scored and two RBIs.
The offensive support made a
winner of starting pitcher David Paddock. The left-hander
allowed just four hits in a complete game effort that featured eight
strikeouts. He improved to 6-3 on the season with the victory.
Transylvania scored two runs
in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead on a two-run home run
by Ben Young. The Pioneers were held to three singles in the
rest of the contest.
Adam Wilkins shutout the
Student Princes for five of his six innings of work and scattered 10
hits in falling to 7-4 on the spring.
Heidelberg improved to 38-8
and will square off against the loser of tonight's game between
Calvin and Rose-Hulman on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.. Transylvania
stands 31-13 and returns to action on Thursday at noon against the
loser of today's game between Adrian and Wooster.
