Derek Eitel allowed just one run and four hits in a strong 7 2/3 innings of work.

BOX SCORE

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology maintained its lead in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball standings with a 3-1 victory over Anderson University on Tuesday night at Art Nehf Field.

Sophomore Derek Eitel (Marshall, Ill.) tossed a gem for the Engineers, allowing just four hits and one earned run with six strikeouts in 7.2 innings to move to 8-2.

Senior Sam Deters (Teutopolis, Ill.) added a school record with his seventh save of the season.  Deters holds the career school record with 18 saves.

Rose-Hulman scored once in the first inning and twice in the third to take an early 3-0 lead.  The first inning featured a double by sophomore Keenan Long (Park Ridge, Ill./ Northwestern University) and an RBI single by sophomore Tim Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder).

In the third frame, the Engineers added a pair of runs to earn a 3-0 lead.  Rose-Hulman relied on back-to-back singles by sophomores Andrew Bilse (Munster) and Chandler Kent (Antioch, Ill.) followed by an RBI ground out by Tepe and another single by sophomore Kirk Thompson (Harrisburg, Ill.) in the rally.

Anderson scored one run in the eighth but was otherwise stifled by the combination of Eitel and closer Sam Deters (Teutopolis, Ill.).

Offensively, Thompson had two singles and one RBI, while Long added two hits and scored once.  Tepe balanced the attack with a pair of RBIs.

Rose-Hulman improved to 27-9 overall and 14-4 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the victory, while Anderson dropped to 21-14 and 11-8 in league play.  The Engineers complete the regular season with a three-game series at Transylvania this weekend.
