INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a pair of huge offensive innings to defeat nationally ranked Anderson University 16-2 at Victory Field in Indianapolis on Tuesday night.

Rose-Hulman broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning rally to earn their 18th victory of the season.  The Engineers then scored six times in the seventh inning to top a Ravens team ranked No. 28 nationally in this week's NCAA Division III coaches poll.

Sophomore Troy Eveslage (Ramsey/North Harrison) opened the frame with a double and advanced to third when sophomore Andrew Bilse (Munster) reached base on a fielding error.  Sophomore Chandler Kent (Antioch, Ill.) slapped a single to give the Engineers a 3-0 lead and their first run of the rally.

Sophomore Keenan Long (Park Ridge, Ill./Northwestern University) and sophomore Tim Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) slapped back-to-back singles for the second and third runs of the frame.  Sophomore Kirk Thompson (Harrisburg, Ill.) provided the key hit of the inning with a two-run double to make the score 7-0.

A two-base hit by senior Gabe Focke (St. Leon/East Central) added the eighth run of the game, and Eveslage capped the rally with another single to make the score 9-0.

Earlier in the game, Long drove home the first run of the contest with an RBI ground out in the first frame.  Freshman Michael Kovacs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) added the second run of the game with an RBI single that scored Focke in the fourth inning.

Rose-Hulman secured the victory with a six-run seventh inning spurt.  Kovacs opened the rally on a single and scored on a triple by Focke.  Long and Tepe added two-run doubles later in the frame and Focke scored on a wild pitch for the game's 15th run.

Kent and Tepe smashed four hits each to lead the Rose-Hulman offense.  Tepe smashed two doubles with two runs scored and three RBIs, while Kent scored twice and had two RBIs.

Kovacs and Eveslage added three hits each, including a double.  Focke pitched in with a double, a triple, three runs and two RBIs as part of the 19-hit Rose-Hulman attack.

On the mound, senior Michael Matsui (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield South) improved to 6-1 on the season with a strong six inning performance.  Matsui scattered seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts in the effort.

The Engineers improved to 18-8 on the season and 5-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the victory.  Anderson dropped to 16-8 overall and 6-2 in conference games.  Rose-Hulman hosts the College of Mount St. Joseph in a three-game series at Art Nehf Field beginning with a doubleheader on Friday night.
