TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology freshman Reed Eason (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) snapped a 2-2 tie with an eighth inning run scoring single to lead the Engineers past DePauw University 3-2 on Wednesday night.

Eason slapped a two-out, RBI single through the right side in the bottom of the eighth to score freshman Michael Kovacs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) with the game winning run.  Kovacs had started the inning with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Daniel Prochno (Hebron, Ill.).

The Engineers relied on a true team effort on the mound to earn the victory.  Rose-Hulman used nine different pitchers in the game's nine innings, with sophomore Ben Stenger (Brookville) earning his first college victory.  Senior Sam Deters (Teutopolis, Ill.) recorded two strikeouts to earn his school record 16th career save with a scoreless ninth inning.

DePauw jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of first inning runs, courtesy of an RBI double by Matt Kleine and a stolen base and throwing error that scored Kleine with the second run.

Rose-Hulman relied on solo runs in the first and second innings to knot the score at 2-2.  Sophomore Tim Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) slapped an RBI double to score sophomore Keenan Long (Park Ridge, Ill.) with the first inning run, and sophomore Nathaniel Miles (Indianapolis/Warren Central) tied the game with an RBI ground out in the second frame.

Offensivly, Tepe led the Engineer offense with two hits, including a double.  Kleine had the double, one RBI and a single to pace the DePauw offense.

Rose-Hulman improved to 15-7 on the season with the victory, while 26th ranked DePauw dropped to 20-6.  The Engineers return to action with a three-game series against Bluffton University, starting Friday at 6 p.m.
