TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology baseball team picked up its tenth win of the season
defeating visiting Adrian College 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore pitcher Derek Eitel (Marshall, Ill.)
earned the win, tossing eight strong innings for the Engineers.
Eitel gave up only two runs on five hits and struck out four
Adrian batters.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead,
plating two runs in the top of the first inning on two run
single by Brett Miskokomon.
Rose-Hulman answered with three runs in the third
after a pair of walks and an errant throw by the Adrian catcher
set up an RBI single by sophomore Chandler Kent (Antioch,
Ill.). Kent then stole second base setting up the
two-out two-run single by sophomore Keenan Long (Park Ridge,
Ill./Northwestern Univ.) that gave the Engineers a 3-2
advantage.
Eitel then shut down the Bulldogs scattering
three hits over the next five innings preserving the Rose-Hulman
lead. Senior Sam Deters (Teutopolis, Ill.) came out
of the bullpen to pick up his fourth save of the season, and
15th of his career, allowing just one Adrian baserunner in the
ninth.
Senior Gabe Focke (St. Leon, Ind./East
Central) finished the afternoon going two-for-four at the
plate improving his average to .333 on the year.
The win improves the Engineers to 10-5 on the
season, while Adrian drops to 7-3. Rose-Hulman returns to
action on Saturday, March 22, when they host Robert
Morris-Springfield for a double-header at Art Nehf field
beginning at 1 p.m.
