TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
Illinois Wesleyan
University preseason All-American pitcher Matt Aronson tossed
eight strong innings to lead the visitors to a 6-1 victory over
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in college baseball action
on Friday.
Aronson scattered five
hits with no walks and five strikeouts in his first start of the
2008 season. He was selected a first-team preseason
All-American by d3baseball.com.
Rose-Hulman senior
Michael Matsui (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield South) matched
Aronson with a solid effort of his own. Matsui scattered
10 hits and allowed single runs in the third, fourth and eighth
innings to keep the Engineers within striking distance. He
also tallied five strikeouts in the effort.
Illinois Wesleyan jumped
out to a 3-0 lead, before the Engineers scored their lone run in
the eighth inning. Sophomore Keenan Long (Park Ridge,
Ill./Northwestern U.) slapped a single to start the rally
and sophomore Tim Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) smashed a
triple to right field to plate Long with the Engineer run.
Rose-Hulman dropped to 8-4
on the season, while Illinois Wesleyan stands 1-1 overall.
The Engineers square off with Illinois Wesleyan at 11 a.m. on
Saturday and Adrian College at 4 p.m. on Saturday in day two of
the Rose-Hulman Invitational. |
