LONGWOOD, FLA. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology completed its spring baseball trip with a 6-3 record
after a 9-2 victory over York College of Pennsylvania on
Saturday.
The Engineers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two
innings, due to three runs in the first and two in the second.
Rose-Hulman relied on a strong pitching effort from senior Michael Matsui (Joliet, Ill./ Plainfield South)
to secure the win.
Matsui tossed six strong innings, with sophomore
Nick Maloney (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) and senior Sam
Deters (Teutopolis, Ill.) shutting out York for the final
three innings.
Offensively, sophomore Keenan Long (Park
Ridge, Ill./ Northwestern U.) led the Engineer offense with
two doubles and four RBIs. Sophomore Andrew Bilse
(Munster) added two hits, one walk and scored three times
from the leadoff spot.
Other key contributors to the Rose-Hulman
offensive effort included sophomore Kirk Thompson (Harrisburg, Ill.)
with two singles and one RBI; freshman Michael Kovacs
(Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) with two walks, one double and
two RBIs; and sophomore Chandler Kent (Antioch, Ill.)
with a double, single and one run scored.
Rose-Hulman finished 6-3 overall during its
Spring Trip and returns to action with games against Illinois
Wesleyan and the University of Chicago at Art Nehf Field on
March 8.
