TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology placed a pair of baseball players on the ESPN The
Magazine Academic All-District squad, in results released
today by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Senior Michael Matsui (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield
South) earned first-team academic all-district honors, while
sophomore Chandler Kent (Antioch, Ill.) was a second-team
selection.
Matsui will advance to the national ballot, with
the Academic All-America Team scheduled for release on May 27.
Matsui has compiled a 9-1 record and a 1.89
earned run average for the Engineer pitching staff this season.
His efforts lead the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in
terms of both victories and earned run average.
On the season, Matsui has scattered 56 hits in 62
innings of work with 43 strikeouts. He has started nine
contests with one complete game and one combined shutout.
Kent ranks second on the team in batting average
at .378 with 12 doubles and one home run. He has slapped
54 hits with 31 runs scored, 25 RBIs and a .483 slugging
average.
Rose-Hulman stands 28-11 on the season and will
open the HCAC Tournament on Friday against Franklin College.
