Rose-Hulman's 2007 class of 11 celebrated Senior Day.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a strong pitching performance from senior Brad Otto (Bath/Union County) to earn a doubleheader split against Transylvania University on Saturday.

The Engineers won the second game 4-3, after Transylvania captured an   8-5 victory in the opener. 

Otto led the Senior Day effort with eight innings on the mound, scattering nine hits and allowing just one earned run with five strikeouts to shut down a potent Transylvania offense.

Offensively, junior Gabe Focke (St. Leon/East Central) led the Engineers with three hits and one run scored.  Senior Tim Braun (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) added a two-run home run, while freshman Tim Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Edler) slapped a double and a single for Rose-Hulman. 

Matt Salisbury tied Rose-Hulman's career hits
record with a pair of hits in the opening game.

In the opener, Braun led the Engineer offense with three hits and one RBI. Senior Matt Salisbury (Fort Wayne/Homestead) had two hits and scored twice to tie the all-time hits record at Rose-Hulman with 186. 

Junior Michael Matsui (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield South) also slapped two singles and drove home one run.

The twinbill was Senior Day for 11 members of the Rose-Hulman baseball program.  Braun, Todd Clementoni (Muncy, Pa.), Kellen Hurst (Noblesville), Adam Knaack (McHenry, Ill./West), Ben Mitchum (New Palestine), Jimmy Murray (Gahanna, Ohio/Columbus Academy), Josh Nash (Elizabethtown, Ky./Central Hardin), Otto, Matt Pepelea (Terre Haute/South), Salisbury and Steven Sawusch (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook South) have combined for a 104-56 career record and a pair of league division titles in their four-year careers.

Transylvania stands 24-10 overall and 12-6 in HCAC play, while Rose-Hulman has a record of 20-15 and 11-7 in league play.  The Engineers host Anderson University in the season's home finale on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
