Matt Salisbury smashed four hits to lead the offensive onslaught.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a five-run first inning and a four-run fourth frame to earn a 12-5 baseball victory over Wabash College on Tuesday night.

Senior Matt Salisbury (Fort Wayne/Homestead) led the Engineers with four hits, three RBIs and two runs scored.  Salisbury smashed his third home run of the season, added his school record 54th career double and added two singles.

Other key contributors included freshman Chandler Kent (Antioch, Ill.) with two hits including a double, three RBIs and one run scored; senior Kellen Hurst (Noblesville) with two hits, three RBIs and a double; and senior Matt Pepelea (Terre Haute/South) with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI.

Derek Eitel tossed a seven-inning gem to earn the victory.

On the mound, freshman Derek Eitel (Marshall, Ill.) improved to 4-3 on the season with a strong seven-inning effort.  Eitel allowed six hits and one run, with no walks and five strikeouts for the Engineers.

Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 5-0 lead after a first-inning rally.  Salisbury drove home Kent to make the score 1-0, then a single by Hurst resulted in another pair of Engineer tallies.

The score increased to 4-0 after a single to left field by Pepelea, then senior Josh Nash (Elizabethtown, Ky./Central Hardin) reached on a fielder's choice to bring home the final run of the rally.

The Engineers added two more runs in the third to push their lead to 7-1.  Pepelea slapped a double and scored after back-to-back singles by freshman Daniel Prochno (Hebron, Ill.) and Kent.  Salisbury added another single to complete the scoring in the frame.

Rose-Hulman relied on four walks, a hit by pitch and a clutch two-run double by Kent to earn an 11-1 advantage after four innings.

Rose-Hulman improved to 19-13 on the season, while Wabash dropped to 12-25-1.  The Engineers return to action with a three-game Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference series against Transylvania University at Art Nehf Field on Friday and Saturday.
