TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Marietta College slapped 15 hits and four pitchers combined on a six-hitter to lead the Pioneers past King's College 11-2 at the NCAA Division III Mideast Baseball Regional on Wednesday. Justin Sternaka led the Pioneers with four hits, including a home run, three runs and three RBIs. Ryan Belanger added a three-RBI triple and scored twice, while Jarrod Klausman, Joe Litke and Josh Beebe had a pair of hits each. King's, making its first appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament, was led by a solo home run from Mike Venarchick. Nick Sorino added a double, while Caleb Calarco had a single and an RBI. On the mound, Mike Eisenberg tossed five shutout innings, allowing three hits with three strikeouts for Marietta to move to 11-1 on the season. Marietta jumped out to a 9-0 lead, courtesy of five runs in the third inning and three in the fourth. Tony Piconke opened the five-run third by reaching on an error, then Klausman singled. Sternaka loaded the bases with an infield hit, before Litke singled through the right side to make the score 2-0. Belanger then smashed a bases clearing triple to right center field to make the score 5-0. Ryan Eschbaugh added an RBI single to cap the rally. Marietta improved to 36-10, while King's dropped to 25-15. The Pioneers square off against Elizabethtown at 1 p.m. on Thursday, while King's battles Otterbein at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. |
