TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman athletic
department presented Ruel Fox Burns Blankets to seniors Suzy
Carlson (State College, Pa.), Rebekah Forsyth (Farmersburg/N.
Central) and Ryan Schipper (Fort Wayne/Dwenger) to
highlight the 2007 Athletic Honors and Awards Banquet on Saturday.
The Ruel Fox Burns Blanket, presented to the
department’s top senior male and female athletes as voted by the
coaching staff, has been presented to outstanding Engineer
student-athletes since 1968.

Carlson graduated with women’s basketball career
school records in assists (320), three-point accuracy (47.8%) and
free-throw accuracy (89.0%). She ranks third all-time with 1,311
points and 154 steals and is second all-time with 153 three-pointers
and 406 free throws made.
Carlson earned a pair of NCAA Division III
statistical national titles for her shooting accuracy, garnering the
three-point crown in 2004-05 and the free-throw title in 2005-06.
She earned three all-conference selections and was second-team
all-region in 2006-07.
Forsyth established women’s basketball school
records for points (1,779), rebounds (1,062) and steals (185), along
with marks for made field goals (663) and free throws (428). She
ranks third in school history with 216 assists and 93 blocked shots,
and holds the top four individual scoring games in school history.
Her efforts also include four first-team
all-league selections, a pair of all-region honors and Conference
Newcomer of the Year accolades. Forsyth and Carlson combined on a
21-5 team that finished second in the HCAC this year.

Schipper earned All-American
honors at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National
Championships in his fourth attempt at a national meet this spring.
He finished third overall in the pole vault, after recording
placements of 9th, 9th and 10th at title meets in his career.
His efforts include two Little
State titles, three conference championships and HCAC Athlete of the
Meet honors in 2007. Schipper also holds both the HCAC and SCAC
records in the pole vault. In addition to his pole vault exploits,
Schipper was all-conference in the triple jump in 2005.
Women’s cross country and track
standout Mandy Hecker (Georgetown/N. Harrison) and senior
tennis player Joe Rottman (Evansville/ Castle) earned the
John Logan Award for compiling the highest female and male
grade-point-average among four-year letter winners.

Hecker holds a total of six
school records in track and field, while
capturing all-league recognition in cross country in 2006. In the
classroom, she maintains a 3.74 grade point average in mechanical
engineering.
Rottman finished his four-year
tennis career with a 49-34 varsity singles record, including
first-team all-HCAC honors this year. He maintains a 3.85 grade
point average in computer engineering.
The Samuel Hulbert Award, named
for the President at Rose-Hulman who retired following the 2003-04
academic year, is presented to the male and female senior athletes
who contribute the most in terms of team spirit, sportsmanship and a
determination to succeed.

Hecker joined Academic
All-Americans Ryan Robinson (Danville) and Kathleen Stynes
(Okemos, Mich.) in claiming the award for reinforcing winning
attitudes and creating a positive atmosphere for their teams.
David Patterson (Terre
Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau) earned the John Mutchner
Award, while Carey Treager Huber (student life office)
claimed the Rosie Award. These awards are presented to one male and
one female who have been cited by the athletic department for
unselfishingly giving their time and support to the Engineer
athletic program.
The Jess Lucas Spirit Award is
presented annually to an individual or group whose support of the
Rose-Hulman athletic department moves above and beyond the norm.
Rachel Selby, a junior chemistry major, earned the award for her
efforts in founding the Rose-Hulman Spirit Club and helping increase
awareness of the athletic department to the students on campus.
Rose-Hulman led the HCAC in women’s basketball attendance this
season, including a Hulbert Arena basketball record crowd at the
Senior Day game.
