Sam Danesis -- HCAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week |
TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology seniors Sam Danesis (Akron, Ohio/Revere) and Derek Eitel
(Marshall, Ill.) were named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference
Players of the Week for their efforts last weekend.
Danesis finished a perfect 2-0 at the No. 1 singles
and No.1 doubles positions to lead the women's tennis team past
Anderson and Manchester on Saturday.
With the victories, Rose-Hulman moved into first
place in the HCAC women's tennis standings and defeated Manchester
for the first time in school history.
Danesis improved to 58-11 in her singles career
and 53-12 in doubles play with the wins. She holds career
school records for singles wins, doubles wins, total wins and
winning percentage.

Derek Eitel -- HCAC Football Offensive Player of the
Week |
Eitel engineered a single game school record 565 yards of total offense
to lead the football team past Earlham 61-24 on Saturday.
His
efforts included 13 completions in 20 passing attempts for 310 yards
and three touchdowns. He also helped graduate student
Thomas Reives (Indianapolis/Tech) and junior Reed Eason (St.
Louis, Mo./Parkway North) become the first receiving duo since
2002 to each surpass 100 receiving yards in the same game.
Eitel's performance included leading Rose-Hulman to six touchdown
drives in its first eight possessions to secure a 42-14 halftime
advantage.
Rose-Hulman opens its 2009 home football campaign with a 5 p.m.
matchup against North Park University on Saturday at Cook Stadium.
