Rose-Hulman News Sam Danesis, Derek Eitel Named HCAC Players of the Week

Sam Danesis -- HCAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology seniors Sam Danesis (Akron, Ohio/Revere) and Derek Eitel (Marshall, Ill.) were named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for their efforts last weekend.

Danesis finished a perfect 2-0 at the No. 1 singles and No.1 doubles positions to lead the women's tennis team past Anderson and Manchester on Saturday.

With the victories, Rose-Hulman moved into first place in the HCAC women's tennis standings and defeated Manchester for the first time in school history.

Danesis improved to 58-11 in her singles career and 53-12 in doubles play with the wins.  She holds career school records for singles wins, doubles wins, total wins and winning percentage.

Derek Eitel -- HCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week

Eitel engineered a single game school record 565 yards of total offense to lead the football team past Earlham 61-24 on Saturday.

His efforts included 13 completions in 20 passing attempts for 310 yards and three touchdowns.  He also helped graduate student Thomas Reives (Indianapolis/Tech) and junior Reed Eason (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) become the first receiving duo since 2002 to each surpass 100 receiving yards in the same game.

Eitel's performance included leading Rose-Hulman to six touchdown drives in its first eight possessions to secure a 42-14 halftime advantage.

Rose-Hulman opens its 2009 home football campaign with a 5 p.m. matchup against North Park University on Saturday at Cook Stadium.
