TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball and softball teams were both represented on ESPN The Magazine academic all-district teams, in results released Thursday.

Junior softball standout Katie Frey (Cedar Grove/Franklin County) and senior three-year starter Adam Knaack (McHenry, Ill./West) both earned second-team academic all-district honors for their success on the field and in the classroom.

Frey ranked third in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in batting average at .416 this season, with 37 hits, 20 runs scored and 19 RBIs.  Her slugging percentage of .584 ranked third in school history, while her on-base average of .464 stands sixth on the single-season list.

Frey holds the Rose-Hulman career softball home run record with seven and stands fifth all-time with 20 doubles.

This season, the mechanical engineering major recorded 14 multiple-hit games, including four games with three hits each.  She blasted a home run with four RBIs at Blackburn and had three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored at Franklin.

Knaack has served as an Engineer catcher for four years, helping the team earn a pair of SCAC Eastern Division titles and three consecutive winning seasons.

The civil engineering major was held to a .223 batting average this season, but his value was shown by Rose-Hulman pitching statistics this year.  In game's Knaack started behind the plate, the team compiled a 4.02 earned run average; in other contests, the team ERA was 6.51.

Knaack completed his career with a .254 batting average, 70 hits, 14 doubles and a ninth-inning home run against Franklin to secure a win this season.  He tallied five multiple-hit games in 2007, including a pair of games with three hits.

The Engineer softball team finished 13-21 overall and 8-8 in HCAC play, while the baseball team compiled a 21-18 record and placed 12-10 in league games.
