Gubernatorial Candidate Reveals Economic Plan at Rose-Hulman Ventures
Mitch Daniels Outlines Framework to Boost Indiana’s Economy

Terre Haute, Ind.---Referring to Rose-Hulman Ventures as the perfect location for his announcement, Mitch Daniels outlined Comeback 1.0 economic plan as a framework for rebuilding a strong state economy.

Jim Eifert, president of Rose-Hulman Ventures (left) explains to Mitch Daniels that RHV is focusing on education and economic development in Indiana by laying groundwork for co-investment and partnership opportunities.

Daniels said, “Rose-Hulman Ventures is contributing to the comeback of the Indiana economy by developing prototypes and new product designs created by Indiana’s entrepreneurs.”

Daniels, a Republican candidate for governor, summarizes the Comeback 1.0 plan in four categories: creating a job-friendly environment, investing in Hoosier workers, supporting winning local strategies and adopting a “Job as Everyone’s Job” mentality.

“State government can and must stop being an impediment to growth and start being a catalyst,” Daniels added. “The key to success will be in the execution and bringing new people to government who understand how business operates and how investment decisions are made.”

During his tour of Rose-Hulman Ventures, Daniels spoke with students, project engineers and entrepreneurs about their contributions to Indiana companies. He added that Rose-Hulman Ventures is an example of what we need more of in Indiana.

In May 2003, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology presented Daniels with the Chauncey Rose Award, which is given each year to the Oscar C. Schmidt Memorial Lecturer. The Schmidt Lecture annually brings to campus national leaders to discuss the free enterprise system.

As former director of the Office of Management and Budget, Daniels oversaw the preparation of the federal budget and supervised its execution throughout the government. The Office of Management and Budget is the Bush administration’s nerve center, and the budget director is said to be the second most powerful job in the U.S. Government. As budget director, Daniels was the only cabinet member who also served on the senior White House team. In addition, he was a member of the National Security Council and the Homeland Security Council.
