Rose-Hulman Ventures Signs Agreement with Crane

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Purdue and Indiana universities signed Memorandums of Understanding on September 5, 2002 with Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC Crane) to enhance economic development in the state while pursuing long-term strategic partnerships. Through these partnership new fields for research and development, technology assistance, business incubation, and training programs will be explored to support and encourage small technology-based businesses in Indiana.

Jim Eifert, president of Rose-Hulman Ventures and Brij Khorana, vice-president of Rose-Hulman Ventures, participated in the signing ceremony. Khorana said, “The agreement will expand the opportunity to develop high-tech businesses and additional educational opportunities for students.”

The value of teaming with universities is well established at NSWC Crane through numerous successful collaborations. Projects have included investigation and development in fuel cells, chemical/biological detection, data storage, knowledge management and projection, radiation hardened electronics, and solid state radar. “Indiana universities are nationally recognized in research and engineering, and the ability to team with them is an opportunity that we can’t ignore,” said Duane Embree, executive director of NSWC Crane. Captain Dan Wise, Commander of NSWC Crane, stated, “We at Crane recognize that working with industrial and academic institutions will result in end products that serve both military and industrial applications.”
