Visiting Faculty Position

Position:
The department of physics and optical engineering anticipates one or more visiting faculty positions starting August 2008.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. degree in optics, physics or engineering is required.
School:
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is a private college of science, mathematics, and engineering with 1600 undergraduate students. There is a small, but growing major in economics. The median entering student had combined scores of 1300 on the SAT. For four years in a row, U.S. News and World Report has ranked Rose-Hulman first among U.S. engineering colleges that do not offer the Ph.D. It is financially sound, with an endowment of $148 million. Three years ago, the Institute received a $30 million grant to fund a business incubator and an industrial outreach program. Professional development is encouraged and actively supported. Rose-Hulman is noted for pedagogical innovation, and persons interested in exploring new teaching strategies, technology-enhanced learning, and curriculum development are particularly encouraged to apply. All students purchase an Institute-standard laptop computer and most of the campus, including many classrooms, is networked.
Description:
The department operates a modern teaching/research observatory as well as active research and development programs in semi conductors, nano technology, fiber optics, electro-optics, optical fibers, astronomy, lens design, holography, photorefractive materials, x-ray fluorescence, optical metrology, biomedical optics, non-linear optics, semiconductors, magneto-optics, laser physics, and semiconductor optics and participates in several innovative curriculum experiments and educational development. The Center for Applied Optics Studies provides exceptional opportunities for professional development and interaction with industry.  Outstanding teaching is the most significant criterion for success at Rose-Hulman.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach lower and upper division courses in physics and optics.
