CALL FOR
ABSTRACTS

August 1, 2006
Dear Colleague:
The Seventeenth (17th) Annual Argonne Symposium for Undergraduates in Science, Engineering and Mathematics will be held at Argonne National Laboratory on Friday, November 3, and Saturday, November 4, 2006. Research papers, presented exclusively by undergraduates, will be accepted from the following research areas: Analytical Chemistry, Astrophysics and Geophysics, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Computer Science, Condensed Matter Physics, Engineering, Environmental Science, General Biology, General Physics, Genetics, Genomics, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, Materials Science, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Nuclear and Atomic Physics, Organometallic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Physics, Spectroscopy, and Structural Biology.
Last year the Symposium was very successful in generating interest and enthusiasm among the 350 persons in attendance including undergraduates, Argonne scientists, university faculty, and graduate students. Please encourage your undergraduate science and engineering students who are engaged in research to present the results of their work at this year's Argonne Symposium. The total time allotted for each presentation is fifteen (15) minutes. Students should prepare a 10-minute presentation and allow an additional 5 minutes for questions from the audience. Undergraduates not presently involved in research are encouraged to attend to learn about the various research opportunities that are available at Argonne.
All Symposium presenters and attendees are required to pre-register and to pay a $60 registration fee. The registration fee includes a reception/banquet that will be held on Friday evening, November 3, 2006.
Instructions for preparation of abstracts, abstract submission, and registration information are available online at:
http://www.dep.anl.gov/p_undergrad/ugsymp
We would appreciate it if you post the enclosed announcement where undergraduates are likely to see it. Selected abstracts and final program information will be posted on our website by October 16, 2006.
Thank you for your help in promoting this important event. Please distribute to your undergraduates.
Sincerely,
Linda Phaire-Washington, Ph.D.
