Rose-Hulman commitment to TREES
TREES, Inc.
As part of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's commitment to reduce our impact on the environment, we will contribute $2 for each laptop purchased each year to TREES, Inc., toward the purchase of trees to counteract the generation of greenhouse gases by the use of those laptops. This year $1,150 will go toward the purchase of trees which, when planted, will absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere, store the carbon as biomass, and release the oxygen back into the atmosphere. This will help offset the carbon dioxide emissions resulting from the production of electricity used during the average three-year use of a notebook computer.
TREES, Inc., is a local nonprofit environmental volunteer group founded in January 1990 to encourage the planting of trees to:
- Replenish our declining urban forest.
- Educate citizens about the importance of maintaining our existing trees
- Improve the environment.
- Beautify the community.
- Stimulate community participation and civic pride.
