Landscaping

Grounds Services is responsible for maintaining the campus grounds providing students, faculty and staff with an aesthetically gratifying and safe place in which to learn and work.The unit consists of five full-time staff and also employs three to six student workers at various times throughout the year. On our staff we have a Licensed Commercial Pesticide Applicator in accordance with the requirements of the Office of the Indiana State Chemist.

Grounds Services performs the following tasks:

  • Vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Landscape design and installation
  • Planting of trees, shrubs and flowers
  • Pruning of trees and shrubs
  • Sodding and seeding lawns
  • Mowing and string trimming
  • Watering of trees, shrubs, lawns and flowers
  • Fertilization of flowers, shrubs and lawn
  • Mulching of trees, flower beds and shrub beds
  • Cleaning and repair of campus roadways, walks, parking lots and storm drains
  • Pond and lake maintenance
  • Pesticide application
  • Animal control
  • Installation and maintenance of grills, refuse receptacles and benches
  • Snow and ice removal
  • Leaf removal
  • Collection of and transport of recyclables to recycling center
  • Refuse and recycling collection from the grounds and all buildings on campus
  • Setup of tables, chairs, trash receptacles, grills and tents for outdoor (and some indoor) events
  • Maintenance and some repair of all tractors, Gators, service vehicles, trailers and rental vehicles
  • Organization of and assistance to the students for Campus Beautification and Fall Brush Up
  • Trash collection, recyclable collection, planting, pruning, mulching and weed control at Aleph Park East and Aleph Park West properties
  • Arranging contract work for snow removal and mowing for our off-campus properties
