How to apply for graduate school
Now that you've narrowed down your choices for the graduate
schools you'd like to attend, it's time to complete the
application. As stated in our proposed Graduate School Timeline, you
should begin submitting applications during the early weeks of the
Winter term of your senior year. By then you should have already
asked for recommendations and polished your personal
statement.
If we had to narrow our advice to two words, here's what we would
choose: Don't procrastinate!
However, the length of a web page is endless, so we'll add a few
more words. You must allow enough time to gather all the
information, seek input from us in Career Services or from your
professors, and to give your recommenders enough time to write
thoughtful letters of recommendation on your behalf. You will also
want to be sure your personal statement convinces the selection
committee that your experience, interests and talents make you an
excellent fit for their program.
This page has given you merely a glimpse into the graduate school
application process. Please use this downloadable Applying to Graduate
School booklet to guide you through each step. And of course,
we are here to assist you in the Career Services Office.
