Make a difference in the Alumni Mentoring Program
Thank you for your interest in being a mentor to a current Rose-Hulman student through the Alumni Mentoring Program (AMP), a partnership between the Student Alumni Association and the Office of Career Services at Rose-Hulman. Mentoring is one of the best ways to give back to current Rose-Hulman students. The mentoring program is designed to be a fairly relaxed program. The mentoring relationship will be conducted through an online module that is part of the eRecruiting system we use to post jobs to our current students. Recent alumni should be familiar with this system.
The mentoring relationship will grow as the student progresses through Rose-Hulman. Initially, students may be interested in advice on what classes to take and tips on how to make the best of their time at Rose-Hulman. As they continue, they may seek advice on interviewing skills and how to make contacts within their chosen industry. In the end, they will be looking for advice related to their career search. Students are informed from the beginning that there should not be an expectation that their mentor will give them an internship or job as it is not the goal of the program. Throughout this partnership, students will appreciate hearing about your personal experiences at Rose-Hulman and your experiences after graduation. Keep in mind, some of the students may be hesitant to contact you first; therefore, feel free to reach out first if you feel comfortable. We hope you find this program rewarding and greatly appreciate your interest.
To Participate:
- Create your account to become a Mentor. You will be approved into the system and then you can fully fill out your profile.
- Please be sure to indicate how many students you wish to mentor. You may choose several.
- Once your profile is complete, students will be able to search for you and will send requests for you to be their Mentor. You can accept or decline as you wish.
- Once you have reached your maximum number of mentees as indicated in your profile, students will not be able to send new requests.
- Students will use the eRecruiting system or e-mail to contact you. We encourage communication at least once a month.
- You can "break" the connection with a student at any time, as can they.
- Mentors are allowed to send mentor requests to other alumni, but we ask that you do not find mentors for yourself through this system, because those "connections" will take away connections from current students. If you wish to talk with another alumni, we encourage you to use the Alumni Affairs directory and contact them that way.
AMP is a program coordinated by the Student Alumni Association and the Office of Career Services & Employer Relations.
