ASEE IL-IN Section Conference – Student Poster Guidelines

Student authors are invited to submit abstracts to the Student Poster Competition at the 2014 ASEE Illinois/Indiana Section Conference, held at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana on March 8, 2014.

Any undergraduate student project work is appropriate for submission.  Typically, work related to senior design projects or undergraduate research projects forms the basis for the poster presentations.

Student author(s) must submit an abstract in accord with the above schedule.  Abstracts should be 250 – 500 words in length and must be submitted electronically using the conference website www.rose-hulman.edu/roseval.aspx and clicking on the Undergraduate Paper and Poster Submissions option on the left. Abstracts may include up to one figure.  If you encounter a problem with the submission, please contact Mackenzie Valandingham, Conference Planner, at valandin@rose-hulman.edu Students may not enter the same project in both the paper and poster competitions.

Entrants in the poster competition will be expected to register in accord with the above schedule and bring their poster to the event to present to attendees, including judges, in accord with the meeting schedule.  At least one student author will be expected to register in accord with the above schedule and attend to present the paper. For group projects, at least one group member is required to register in accord with the above schedule; each co-author attending the meeting must register.  Student co-authors who are not attending are not required to register. Winners of the student competitions will be announced at the end of the luncheon on Saturday, March 8, 2014.

Publication

The poster presentations will take place during the morning sessions on Saturday, March 8, 2014.  Students should be able to give a 1-2 minute “elevator” speech regarding their project as well as be able to entertain detailed questions from the judges and observers.

Final abstracts received by the February 21st deadline will be included on the proceedings USB to be distributed at the conference.

In order for a poster presentation to take place at the meeting, at least one student author of each accepted paper must register for the meeting no later than February 21, 2014. If no student author for an accepted poster has registered by February 21, 2014, the poster cannot be presented at the meeting. The poster abstract will also be removed from its assigned session, the final Program, and the Proceedings.

Presentation

The presentations will take place during the morning sessions on Saturday, March 8, 2014.  Students should plan to speak for 12 minutes and expect to address questions from the audience. 

In order for a presentation of a paper to take place at the meeting, at least one student author of each accepted paper must register for the meeting no later than February 14, 2014.

If no student author for an accepted paper has registered by February 14, 2014, the paper cannot be presented at the meeting. The paper will also be removed from its assigned session, the final Program, and the Proceedings.

Publication

Completed manuscripts received by the February 14, 2014 deadline will be included on the proceedings USB to be distributed at the conference, provided at least one student author has registered for the conference by the February 14, 2014 deadline. 

ELIGIBILITY

Undergraduates from any engineering or engineering technology program in the Indiana/Illinois Section are invited to present a paper.  Each paper submission must identify a faculty advisor.  The faculty advisor must be a registered conference attendee.
