Sustainability is becoming an integral part of the Institute’s daily operations. EH&S coordinates the operational sustainability activities for the Institute while assisting Academic courses in this area as well. Rose-Hulman’s sustainability mission is to reduce, to the extent technologically and economically feasible, the environmental impacts associated with the operations of the institute.
President’s Climate Commitment
In 2007 Rose-Hulman’s 13th President, Gerald S. Jakubowski, signed the American Colleges and Universities President’s Climate Commitment. Rose-Hulman’s Climate Action Plan was completed in 2009. This Plan sets goals for strategically reducing our environmental impact. View the Rose-Hulman Climate Action Plan.
The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Facilities Sustainability Team was formed in February 2007. The team expanded with the inclusion of student, faculty, and staff representation in December 2007. We seek to promote the responsible management of resources through shared learning, community involvement and in the reduction of waste. We are working to unite efforts on campus to promote a culture of sustainability that reduces our environmental footprint while contributing to the development of our students as leaders and responsible citizens.
The Home for Environmentally Responsible Engineering (HERE) is a living-learning community focused on sustainability.
