Rickey McCurry Named Vice President for Institutional Advancement

Rickey N. McCurry has been named vice president for
institutional advancement at Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology. He will set strategies for fundraising and alumni
affairs that support Rose-Hulman's long-range educational
objectives. He will also serve as a member of the president's
administrative cabinet.

"Rickey brings skills in constituency development that will be
valuable assets to our institutional advancement division and my
administration," stated Rose-Hulman President Matt Branam.
"He will help our academic departments and faculty members realize
their strategic goals, while setting the course for future
objectives, including endowment growth, that will keep us on the
cutting edge of innovation in undergraduate engineering, science
and math education."
With a diverse background in higher education administration and
teaching, McCurry has been consistently successful in resource
generation and financial management. He has spent the last 11
years as vice chancellor for institutional advancement and chief
executive officer of the Southern Illinois University
Foundation. He has been responsible for the administration
and management of alumni relations, constituent relations,
fundraising and special events.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to join the Rose-Hulman
family as Vice President for Institutional Advancement," stated
McCurry. "Rose-Hulman has established itself as a national
model of excellence in undergraduate engineering education and I
look forward to creating an advancement program that reflects that
same level of commitment to excellence."
At Southern Illinois, McCurry led the foundation board in the
development of a strategic plan for 2009-12; led the institution to
successfully complete its first comprehensive campaign, raising
more than $106 million; helped the university's endowment grow from
$42 million to $86 million; increased foundation assets by 125
percent and directed the cultivation and solicitation of several
principal gifts, including the single largest gift ($10.2 million)
in the university's history.
McCurry's experience in higher education advancement also includes
serving as associate vice chancellor for development and alumni
affairs at the University of Tennessee (1993-2000), campaign
director at Tennessee (1995-1998), assistant vice president for
institutional advancement at Meharry Medical College in Nashville,
Tenn. (1990-93), senior development officer for the College of
Communications at Pennsylvania State University (1988-1990),
associate director of annual and planned giving at Indiana
University of Pennsylvania (1986-88) and assistant director of
development and alumni affairs at Lane College in Jackson, Tenn.
(1984-86).
McCurry earned a law degree from North Carolina Central
University's School of Law after graduating summa cum laude with a
bachelor's degree in history from Lane College. He is a
former member of the American Bar Association, National Bar
Association and Tennessee Bar Association. He is currently a
member of Council for the Advancement and Support of Education
(CASE), the Association of Governing Boards (AGB) and the
Association of Public and Land Grant Universities (APLU).
McCurry earned CASE's Commonfund Institutionally Related Foundation
CEO of the Year Award (2009), was selected to participate in the
Big Ten Fund Raisers Institute (2000 and 2005) and was selected to
participate in the Millennium Leadership Initiative (2004).
His professional development experience has featured him as a
presenter for several CASE national and district conferences,
member of CASE's Institutionally Related Foundation Board, member
of CASE's Circle of Excellence Award Committee, member of CASE's
Philanthropy Commission and chair-elect of CASE's District V Board
of Directors.
