Three Rose-Hulman freshmen had the unique opportunity to exchange ideas with MythBusters television co-host Jamie Hyneman after producing an award-winning video for the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network’s (KEEN) 2015 Engineering Unleashed video competition.
The three-minute video demonstrates how engineering education principles are unleashed at Rose-Hulman, as early as the fall quarter of a student’s freshman year, with a mindset of curiosity, connections, and creating value.
Producing the prize-winning video were freshmen mechanical engineering students Curt Lemke and Andrew McNany, along with Adam Gastineau, a freshman computer science major.

The contest was part of Kern Family Foundation’s KEEN Winter Conference, attended by Rose-Hulman and other U.S. engineering institutions that are working together to exchange ideas to produce graduates with an entrepreneurial mindset so they can create personal, economic, and societal value through a lifetime of meaningful work.
Hyneman, who develops special effects for movies and television, was one of the keynote speakers at the KEEN Winter Conference. He also met with students, administrators, faculty, and staff members.
