March 8, 2013
Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity chapters at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Indiana State University have teams to organize the fifth-annual Fire Truck Pull on March 23 to support Special Olympics Indiana. The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Eighth Street, between Wabash Avenue and Cherry Street.
||Strong And Fast: Teams compete in Pi Kappa Alpha’s annual Fire Truck Pull event, which supports Special Olympics Indiana.
At least 10 community teams are being sought to participate in this year’s event. Each team should have eight to 10 people working together to pull a fire truck 100 feet in the fastest time. Past entries have come from the Terre Haute Fire Department, Union Hospital, Terre Haute Police Department and Shriner Club of Terre Haute. Also, over 500 people from the community and Special Olympic athletes have attended the event, and learned about Special Olympics Indiana.
This year’s goal is to raise over $10,000.
Besides the Fire Truck Pull there will be children’s activities, demonstrations by the Terre Haute Police Department’s K-9 Search and Rescue Team, live music and displays by the Riley Fire Department. There will also be pulling events for athlete and kids teams.
People can also support the event be participating in a fundraising event on March 17 at Rollie’s Pizza, located at 6710 Wabash Ave. Rose-Hulman’s Iota Delta chapter will have its fire truck on display throughout the night.
