Careers Another Rose-Hulman Superlative
July 5, 2012
On the 4th of July Rose-Hulman received added reasons for
celebration when Best Colleges Online recognized the
school's Career Services office among the top 20 in the nation. On
the list with the likes of Yale, Clark, Sweet Briar, Cornell, and
Northeastern, Rose-Hulman was cited for excellence in placing its
students in good careers, saying that students can call on the
"industry relationships career services has, attend networking
events with alumni, and even get help finding a mentor."
At Rose-Hulman's three annual career fairs, the strong network
of alumni is evident; many of them return to campus to seek and
hire new talent for their companies. In addition, the school puts
strong emphasis on hands-on opportunity, leadership training, and
global awareness, qualities often highly valued by employers --
along with the strong academic fundamentals in math, science and
engineering that Rose-Hulman is known for. Alumni also play an
important role as mentors, as providers of industry internships and
as coaches fostering entrepreneurship.
Now, just weeks after graduation, Career Services director Kevin
Hewerdine reports that the class of 2012 has achieved 95%
placement. The number is most likely going to continue to
rise. By the end of 2011, a full 99% of Rose-Hulman's 2011
graduating class had been placed in either full-time employment or
a program of further studies.
Hewerdine adds that the median starting salary for the 2012
graduating class was $64,300. This is even higher than
last year's median salary, which caused PayScale, in last
summer's PayScale 2011
Salary Report, to cite Rose-Hulman as one
of the top 10 schools in the country for starting
salaries.
