Distinguished Young Alumni Awardee: Brendan McKiernan
 |
|
Among the festivities of Homecoming, Rose-Hulman will proudly
present Brendan McKiernan with the Distinguished Young Alumni
Award.
After graduating Rose-Hulman in 2007 with a Bachelor of
Science in biomedical engineering, Brendan joined the Alliance for
Catholic Education, a service through teaching program run by the
University of Notre Dame. There, Brendan taught inner-city
youth in New Orleans while earning his Master of
Education.
"My experiences at Rose were instrumental in defining my
professional educational philosophy," McKiernan states. "While at
Rose, the academic expectations helped me experience and value the
idea of challenging yourself in your education. My experience
through the Learning Center and being an RA showed me the value of
asking and answering questions and of community in your
education."

McKiernan is currently teaching high school math, developing the
Advanced Placement curriculum, and directing the middle school
intramural and interscholastic sports for Holy Cross School in New
Orleans.
"As a non-traditional Rose-Hulman graduate, I am both surprised
and honored to receive this award. Rose not only provides
excellent academic preparation but also outstanding development as
a person and citizen; ideals I bring into my classroom daily."
