Kevin Sutterer

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Civil Engineering Professor Kevin Sutterer has been selected the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Region 4 Faculty Advisor of the Year, following nomination by members of the ASCE's Cecil T. Lobo student chapter.  The award was announced by the ASCE Committee on Student Activities and will be presented when the chapter receives the Robert Ridgway Award, as nation’s top chapter, during a special recognition ceremony on May 14.

“It is the enthusiasm and commitment of faculty advisors like Kevin Sutterer that produce excellent student organizations such as the one at Rose-Hulman,” noted Kevin Bower, chair of the ASCE’s student activities committee.

Sutterer has served as ASCE faculty advisor for several years.  During his tenure, Rose-Hulman has received three Ridgway Awards and numerous district honors.

Awards are nothing new for Sutterer.  He received the Young Engineer of the Year by the National Society of Professional Engineers and Professional Engineering Achievement in Education from the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers.  He specializes in waste utilization in structural fills, geotechnical earthquake engineering, geosynthesis, and ground modification and geotechnical construction, and has experience as a geotechnical consultant in most areas of geotechnical engineering.

Sutterer earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla, an additional master's degree from Purdue University, and a doctorate degree from Georgia Institute of Technology.
