Rose-Hulman is described as a "rising star among tech peers like Caltech and MIT," according to an article in this week's Newsweek issue about the new "hot colleges" list. On Aug. 22, U.S. News & World Report announced that Rose-Hulman had retained its ranking for the fifth consecutive year as the nation's best college that offers the bachelor's or master's as its top degree in engineering. Of the five Rose-Hulman engineering programs ranked by U.S. News, each was ranked No. 1 for the fourth consecutive year. In the Kaplan/Newsweek list, Rose-Hulman tied with Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh as this year's most tech-savvy college. "This year's hottest schools are rising stars that deserve special notice for their choice attributes which include innovative curricula," stated Seppy Basili, Kaplan Vice President and contributing editor to the guide. The list is based on admissions trends and interviews with teachers, guidance counselors, admissions officials and students. The 12 colleges on the list were not ranked. They include:
"We're pleased to learn of yet another study indicating increased national interest in Rose-Hulman," stated Rose-Hulman President Samuel Hulbert. "We're focused on continuous improvement. The quality of our educational programs is becoming increasingly viewed as a model for undergraduate engineering, mathematics and science education," Hulbert said. Each year, Kaplan/Newsweek editors select an entirely new list. This is the seventh year, the "hot colleges" list has been published. No colleges have been included on the list more than once.
