Rose-Hulman seniors are reaping a strong job market for engineers, life scientists, computer scientists and mathematicians from employers throughout the country, according to Kevin Hewerdine, director of career services and employer relations.
"Most of our graduates have put themselves in excellent positions to start their careers through hard work in the classroom and a multitude of summer internships and co-op work opportunities," Hewerdine says. "Employers have clamored our students for their excellent problem-solving skills and the difference that they will make in their future employment roles."
Major courses of study at Rose-Hulman with high employment demand this year include mathematics, with 100 percent placement; engineering physics, 100 percent; optical engineering, 100 percent; electrical engineering, 98 percent; computer science, 97 percent; software engineering, 96 percent; civil engineering, 93 percent; computer engineering, 93 percent; chemical engineering, 89 percent; mechanical engineering, 88 percent; applied biology, 83 percent; chemistry, 82 percent; and biomedical engineering, 79 percent.
This year's 90 percent overall job placement statistic is slightly higher than the 85 percentage at this same time last year, and a considerable improvement over the 71 percentage in 2004, Hewerdine reports.
Commencement rehearsal and a special Senior Send Off celebration are planned this afternoon at Rose-Hulman. |
